Reports to: Building Principal and Director of Special Services

Job Summary:

The School Psychologist is an integral member of the school’s evaluation, mental health and behavior support team.

Qualifications:

Michigan Full or Temporary approval as a School Psychologist with the following requirements

  • Specialist degree in School Psychology or its equivalent or in the final year of program.
  • Completion of a minimum of 45 graduate semester hours in School Psychology or related areas in addition to internship.
  • Valid Michigan School Psychologist certificate or a preliminary certificate according to MDE guidelines

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate in the development of team procedures (e.g. referral, monitoring tiers, developing observation and interview protocols, developing procedures for measuring response to interventions).
  • Provide School Psychological services to any pupil as outlined in Special Education Rules and Regulations.
  • Works with staff, students, parents, local educational agencies, and community to build a shared vision of learning for students with disabilities.
  • Support program teams regarding Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) model implementation relative to intensifying interventions and programming for students with disabilities.
  • Works with staff to develop meaningful Individualized Education Programs to support increased student growth and achievement for students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with staff in planning educational intervention, curriculum, behavior management, and teaching strategies, including support for PBIS.
  • Provide psychological evaluation for pupils referred as candidates for special education programs and provide comprehensive and accurate reports to appropriate educational authority.
  • Complete systematic direct observation of students as required.
  • Administer tests, including intelligence, achievement, adaptive behavior, perceptual-motor, etc.
  • Provide and interpret assessments and evaluations to determine eligibility for special education, and identify needs for programs and services.
  • Collaborate with case managers and staff in the completion of the Review of Existing Evaluation Data (REED).
  • Develop functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans to facilitate successful learning and socialization opportunities.
  • Identify and coordinate accommodations and modifications of school environments for a student to obtain access to general education curriculum and instruction.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or his/her designee
  • Excellent comprehension of Michigan Special Education Rules and Regulations, Section 504 and IDEA

Other Job Responsibilities:

  • Must have an understanding of behavioral characteristics associated with behavior disorders, autism, traumatic brain injuries, and other behavior issues.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of the students
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and the necessary software.
