Damien Center empowers communities and persons affected by HIV/AIDS in the state of Indiana by being a leading resource, provider, and advocate for comprehensive HIV/AIDS care, prevention, education, and related services. Damien Center, Damien Cares and Damien Pharmacy provide client-centered social services focused on care coordination, clinical and pharmacy services, mental health, housing, and nutrition to the Indianapolis community.

 

Position Summary:

 

The Peer Recovery Coach will provide recovery support services to individuals who are seeking recovery from substance use disorders and other addictions. The position is a full-time role who will be working as part of the clinical team providing intensive outpatient services (IOP) through the CARE Program (Comprehensive Access to Recovery and Empowerment). The peer recovery coach will work in collaboration with therapists, medical providers, and psychiatric providers to provide recovery focused case management and peer support to individuals seeking recovery from addiction from point of program entry, during treatment engagement, and engage in follow up after discharging from clinical services. The peer recovery coach will work with clients individually as well as assist with group therapy programming. The candidate must be actively engaged in their own recovery program with a minimum of two years demonstrated recovery and sustained abstinence from alcohol and/or drug use. The Recovery Coach must be willing to publicly self-identify as being in recovery from a substance use disorder.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide coaching and support to individuals seeking recovery from a substance use disorder, collaborating with clients to develop a recovery plan consisting of goals to support the individual’s recovery.

· Engage clients in recovery focused case management, maintaining a caseload of approximately 25-35 clients based on acuity of client needs.

· Maintain an up-to-date list of recovery focused community resources including MAT services, recovery meetings, sober living environments, and treatment programs, connecting clients to resources as necessary.

· Assist in the collection and documentation of urine drug screens and rapid HIV testing.

· Refer and connect clients to appropriate services/departments within the Damien Center.

· Provide clients with education about HIV, Hepatitis C, and Harm Reduction.

· Assist in assessment, enrollment, and orientation processes for clients enrolling in IOP programming.

· Assist in referring and connecting clients to detox, residential, or partial hospitalization programs as necessary following assessment for IOP programming.

· Assist in IOP programming, attending treatment groups and participating to model healthy recovery behaviors and perspectives.

· Assist in crisis interventions as necessary for clients that may present as actively suicidal, homicidal, or intoxicated at program site. Working alongside clinicians to connect clients in crisis to the appropriate services or return to their homes safely if intoxicated.

· Engage in outreach and networking opportunities to identify potential clients eligible for programming and improve relationships with potential referral sources.

· Complete follow-up assessments at required intervals focused on identifying progress and continued needs.

· Complete documentation in a timely manner, including documenting client interactions, inputting data into appropriate systems, documenting assessments, and completing enrollment forms.

· Engage clients in services focusing on retention in care of clinical services.

· Facilitate a community-based peer recovery support group.

· Provide transportation and accompany clients to appointments or recovery meetings as needed.

· Work as a part of an interdisciplinary team of medical staff, psychiatric providers, and therapists.

· Maintain ethical conduct regarding professional boundaries, dual relationships, and client confidentiality regarding HIPAA standards.

· Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

 

· Must have lived experience with recovery from a substance use disorder with two years of self-attested sustained recovery/abstinence from active substance use, and either possessing or able to obtain a certification as a Certified Addiction Peer Recovery Coach (CAPRC).

· Experience working in public health, social work, case management, or related field preferred.

· Must possess a basic understanding of recovery services, treatment services, resources in the greater Indianapolis area, and overall wellness and recovery planning.

· High school diploma or graduation equivalency degree (GED).

· Experience with diverse populations preferred.

 

Work experience may substitute for education requirements on a case-by-case basis.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior product results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.
