Intergenerational Arts Coordinator

Position Summary

Treehouse Easthampton is currently seeking a highly creative individual to join our Intergenerational Support Team as Intergenerational Arts Coordinator (IAC). The IAC will utilize the arts and creative process to cultivate community, promote engagement, foster enduring connections, build leadership capacity among youth, and act as a bridge to understanding across generations and differences. The IAC position is primarily located in our Treehouse Easthampton Community, but also serves as the Managing Director for Truth Tellers Theater Ensemble, coordinating and collaborating with our partner Priscilla Kane Hellweg of Arts Integration Studio in Holyoke, MA.

The Intergenerational Arts Coordinator Responsibilities

Working closely with the Clinical Supervisor, the Associate Site Director, the Intergenerational Support Team, the Intergenerational Arts Coordinator will be responsible for the following:

Onsite Programming

• Develop and expand intergenerational arts and youth leadership programming through events, workshops, activities, and ongoing groups using an integrative, multimodal approach (writing, music, visual arts, drama, dance) that is responsive to the voiced interests and needs of the community
• Encourage intergenerational connections in all programming, attuning to the needs of varying groups and creating a welcoming environment for all
• In collaboration with Intergenerational Support Team staff and community members, plan and implement after-school and out-of-school programming for children and youth following trauma-informed, best practices to ensure their well-being that encourage creativity, promote leadership, lift voices, build community, and life skills
• Conduct community outreach in coordination with staff and maintain positive relationships with community members and collaborators
• Participate in team meetings, clinical and program supervision, and trainings
• Attend team meetings, clinical/program supervision, and trainings.

Truth Tellers Theater Ensemble

Truth Tellers Theater Ensemble is an intergenerational, youth-centered ensemble that collaborates in theater-making to share their stories of lived experience with foster care, kinship care, and adoption. As a collective, we devise a performance to raise awareness and dispel myths about childhood trauma, and help create positive change in the child welfare system. The program runs from October - May and culminates in a performance series, including performances for legislators and child advocates at the Massachusetts State House, and caseworkers from the Department of Children and Families at the De La Luz Theater in Holyoke. Truth Tellers rehearses one to two days per week from 3:30pm to 6:30pm with occasional evening and weekend hours required.

• In partnership with Arts Integration Studios, facilitate recruitment for Truth Tellers,
• Establish and nurture relationships with local schools, DCF, and other contacts within the community to ensure a diverse group of youth participants,
• Work with Intergenerational Support staff to engage older adults and other volunteers interested in joining Truth Tellers, and build a system for transporting youth to the program,
• Work collaboratively with Priscilla Kane Hellweg, Artistic Director of Truth Tellers, to support the rehearsal and production process. This includes but is not limited to: Attend and participate in all rehearsals; engage creatively with the development of the production (whether in music, dance, visual arts, media arts or other); support the technical end of the production (costumes, sound, lights, etc.); and collaborate in the evaluation and reflection process to ensure a thoughtful and positive learning experience for all.

Additional Responsibilities

• Plan and design grant-based projects in collaboration with development staff

• Work within program budgets and manage program expenditures
• Establish and maintain consistent, meaningful data collection methods, and documentation of participation and engagement
• Provide individual transportation when needed

Essential Qualifications and Skills

• Bachelors degree
• Relevant background and education in the arts, and psychology or related field
• Passion for the power of the arts to heal, grow and empower individuals and communities
• Experience working with youth and older adults
• Passion, understanding, and competence in working in an intergenerational setting
• Awareness of the impact of trauma and early adversity on development
• Knowledge of and ability to integrate trauma-informed design/practice
• Ability to attune to different learning styles, needs and capacity
• Excellent organizational and communication skills

• Desire to work in a non-traditional environment, integrating community member voices into program design and leadership

• Awareness of and deep respect for other cultures, values, identities and perspectives
• Ability to work well as part of a team
• Strong computer, social media skills, and comfort with digital tools
• Reliable transportation and drivers license
• Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate occasional evening and weekend activities and events.
• Commitment to advancing anti-racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, justice, and cultural humility.
• Commitment to and experience in working in a mission-driven nonprofit setting.
• Willingness to bring authentic self with professionalism into the workplace.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in social work preferred or commensurate experience

• Previous experience in family support, social work, or related fields
• People with lived experience in foster care are encouraged to apply

Benefits and Compensation

This is an exempt full time 40 hour a week position with full benefits. The annual pay range is $60,000-$65,000, commensurate with experience.

Location: Onsite in Easthampton and Holyoke, Massachusetts

Travel: Occasional travel required

Full Time: 40 hour week

We offer a paid time off package including 12 paid holidays, 3 weeks of vacation plus the last week of December off, and generous sick time and personal time. Given the nature of this role, the IAC may need to work some portion of the last week of December. Should that occur, the IAC will receive an equivalent amount of additional paid time off to be used during the year. The position includes a generous benefits package of health, dental, vision, life, short-term and long-term disability insurances, and simple IRA retirement plan with 2% employer contribution. We offer flexible schedules and start and end times where possible.
