Supporting a vibrant campus community comprised of approximately 4,000 students/quarter, and 750 employees across the year, the HR Office serves as an integral component of College operations. Focused on meeting the needs of both employees and the College, Human Resources Office is responsible for managing employee recruitment/hiring, compensation/benefits, evaluation/training, and engagement/retention activities.
The Human Resources Consultant Assistant 1 (HRCA1) position offers a great opportunity to help with many important HR tasks. You will support HR functions by doing clerical, technical, and administrative work following established guidelines and policies.
As the main person answering questions at the HR front desk, you'll greet visitors and help answer their questions related to HR policies and procedures. You will also update employment materials, authorize/enter part-time and student employee info, keep track of/maintain office supplies, and assist the HR team with general tasks.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, is organized, and wants to be a helpful part of the Shoreline Community College HR team.
Primary responsibilities include the following:
Front Desk & General Office Support
- Greet and assist visitors at the front desk during regular business hours.
- Receive, sort, and route department mail.
- Order and maintain office supplies and equipment.
HR Inquiries & Communication
- Respond to general HR inquiries and provide clear/accurate information regarding policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Track and communicate personnel changes to relevant campus departments.
New Hires & Employment Documentation
- Review for completeness and enter new hire data for temporary part-time and student positions, ensuring compliance with HR procedures and employment regulations.
- Complete employment verification requests.
- Assist with updating employment materials and maintaining accurate HR documentation.
Administrative & Technical Support
- Perform data entry and maintain updated reports, spreadsheets, organizational charts, and HR website content both internal and external.
- Support recruitment efforts by coordinating interviews and managing related paperwork.
- Coordinate requests for business cards and other office materials.
- Provide clerical and technical support to HR staff as needed.
- Offer additional assistance to HR team members on various tasks and projects as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
- Three (3) years of office experience including at least six (6) months of experience in an HR or related setting, OR equivalent education/experience.
Knowledge Of:
- Microsoft Office applications such as SharePoint, Excel, Outlook, and Word programs.
- Office operations, filing systems, and standard business communication.
- HR best practices in areas such as onboarding, personnel recordkeeping, confidentiality, and employment documentation.
Skill In:
- Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness.
- Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines/priorities.
- Accurately disseminating labor and employment regulations to a variety of diverse audiences.
- Entering and/or retrieving data accurately in computerized record keeping systems.
- Writing/editing/proofreading clear and concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication with individuals inside and/or outside of the College.
- Establishing/maintaining effective working relationships at all organizational levels.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of students, staff, and the public in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner.
- Delivering high-quality customer service in a professional and responsive manner.
Conditions of Employment Physical Work Environment:
The College is currently providing services in a mixed modality of operations (both online and in-person services are offered). This position will perform work in a standard office setting, use standard office equipment and physically attend meetings and events both on and off campus.
Please note, as the primary point of on-campus contact for the HR Office, telework is not available in this position.
Terms Of Employment/Salary:
This position is allocated to Range 36 under the Washington State Office of Financial Management higher education salary schedule. Salary placement for new employees is determined by the College. This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs. Hiring of this position is contingent on available funding as determined by the College President.

PART-TIME FACULTY POSITIONS A part time faculty member becomes eligible for benefits at the beginning of the second consecutive quarter of half time or more employment at one or more Washington state institutions of higher education. Spring and fall quarters are considered consecutive quarters for benefits eligibility. Half time is determined based on each institution's definition of full time.
A part time faculty member must qualify each quarter they teach to maintain eligibility. Once eligible, part time faculty will be notified of their benefit and retirement options.
