Position Summary

The Communications and Events Specialist will be responsible for coordinating internal and external communications and promoting the message of Saint Matthew Catholic Church to build growth. They will manage parish databases, online platforms, and oversee the various technology needs of the parish. They are also responsible for parish communication internally, parish-wide, and externally. This position will also perform various office administrative duties as needed. They will be responsible for promoting the rental of the parish facilities, including the Klesse Ballroom, Athletic Center, and the Athletic Field.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages the parish website, weekly bulletin publication to social media and parish website, social media, implementation of flock notes, mail, and Mass announcements. Creates and edits content for each medium.
  • Works with the Parish IT vendor to maintains and manage the parish technology systems and networks (local and online), installs software and hardware, provides technical support, and helps establish protocols for technology usage.
  • Authors the weekly bulletin, funeral pamphlets and any other church documentation as needed.
  • Works with Parish Staff and Volunteers to curate photographs. Maintains a library of photographs and other media from liturgies and other extraordinary events.
  • Builds registration forms for ministry leaders and staff as needed.
  • Assists ministries with marketing and promotion of ministry events including the annual Fall Festival and Parish Gala.
  • Crafts well-written messages for reflections, mailings, outreach, etc.
  • Maintains all communication outlets in a systematic and organized manner.
  • In the absence of the Liturgist or Liturgy Coordinator, operates the Audio / Visual system in the church when needed.
  • Create and edits the YouTube mass. Posts the final copy to the church website and YouTube channel.
  • Manages any mass mailings to parishioners, including drafting, printing, and assembling letters.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as scheduled.
  • Maintains parish calendar and participates in annual calendar planning.
  • Produces live streams of Masses, Parish Missions, and other events
  • Manages all social media for the parish (Facebook and YouTube) and monitors comments, messages, and other interactions
  • Routinely updates and maintains the parish's website
  • Sends out messages and monitors resources and activity on the parish WhatsApp application
  • Recruit volunteer or paid photographer(s) to serves at a variety of activities and events
  • Creates and maintain custom calendar for the parish (online)
  • Proofreads and edits content from pastor and other staff members when requested
  • Communicates with the parish's organizations and ministries and helps organize communication plans for their events and activities
  • Collects data and designs layout of annual report
  • Assists with the ministry scheduling software
  • Generates queries in parish database
  • Maintains contact with outside vendors such as LPi, Diocesan, Today's Catholic, printers, etc.
  • Gathers and compares quotes for printing projects
  • Uses graphic design skills to make flyers, posters, handouts, and other promotional materials
  • Promotes the rental of facilities working with the Parish Facility Manager, bills and collects payments for facility rentals.
Requirements

Qualifications:
  • Fully initiated and practicing Catholic.
  • Previous ministry experience in a Catholic environment required.
  • Bachelors degree in business, communications. Equivalent experience in business matters can substitute for degree,
  • Preferred experience with MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Publisher, and video editing software
  • Experience with various forms of communication and social media; Facebook.
  • Proven ability to multitask, and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Must be flexible as work hours will vary, including weekends and holy days.
  • Fluent in English required; Spanish bilingual preferred but not required.
  • Must be meticulous, organized, have effective time management skills, be self-motivated, ability to multi-task, and work well independently and on a team.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Spanish..
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Strong organizational and project management abilities. Ability to always maintain a high-level confidentiality and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to communicate to various levels of management and staff
  • Ability to work in a team environment, fostering a positive work environment
Physical Demands/ Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and occasionally required to climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds with assistance if needed. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
